The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University are nationally recognized liberal arts colleges distinguished by a singular, undergraduate experience. This partnership gives students the opportunities of a large university while retaining the close personal attention of a premier liberal arts college. The colleges are committed to global learning and connection – a commitment that extends to experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Nearly all students (97%) complete an internship, participate in undergraduate research, study abroad, or participate in community service. The campuses are located on 3,300 acres of woods, lakes, and prairie – providing students with unique opportunities for education and recreation. Nearly all students live on-campus or in the immediate campus neighborhood.

International study opportunities

More than half of our students participate in international study. The colleges offer 16 semester-long programs in the following locations: Australia, Austria, London, Chile, China, France, Greece-Italy, Guatemala, Ireland (Cork and Galway), Japan, South Africa, Spain. The colleges offer additional international trips during May Term and Summer Term.

College services and facilities

On-campus housing: Nearly 100% of students live on campus all four years. Traditional residence halls, suites and on-campus apartments are available.

Fitness/recreation facilities: Together the colleges have nine indoor tennis courts meeting USTA standards, 15 outdoor tennis courts, 15 basketball courts, six racquetball courts, eight indoor volleyball courts, three sand volleyball courts, two field houses, two indoor tracks, an outdoor track, two soccer fields, two indoor pools, a football stadium, softball fields, a climbing wall, two fitness centers, an aerobics studio, locker and training rooms, and practice and intramural fields.

Technology: Recognized among 50 colleges worldwide as a New Media Center by the New Media Consortium – acknowledging leaders in applying technology to teaching, learning, research and creative expression. More than 687 computers available campus-wide.

Internships: Academic credit is granted for internships in a student's chosen field. The internship experience allows students the opportunity to apply learned skills and principles in a practical work setting. Students in many academic disciplines intern at various sites in Minnesota and throughout the country.

Career services: The colleges' career planning and placement staffs offer one-to-one career counseling, courses, resume writing workshops, internship and externship assistance, access to a career resource library and career contact file, and arrangement of on-campus job interviews.

Counseling and guidance services: Counseling is available to assist students in using their total college experience to benefit their personal growth. The colleges offer confidential individual counseling as well as group counseling geared to current student needs.

First-year students: 43% from Twin Cities area; 39% from Greater Minnesota; 14% from other states; 4% from other countries; 100% live on campus

Scholastic aptitude test: 11% of first-year students submitted the SAT as part of their applications. The middle 50% range of their SAT Math scores was 537-662. The middle 50% range of their SAT Verbal scores was 502-643.

American college test: 95% of first-year students presented the ACT as part of their applications. The middle 50% of enrolled students had ACT composite scores between 23 and 28.

High school rank: 83% of new entering students reported their high school class rank. Of those reporting, 33% were in the top tenth of their class; 65% were in the top quarter of their class; and, 92% were in the top half of their class.

Admissions tests required: ACT or SAT

High school preparation: High school courses recommended for applicants include four units of English, three units of mathematics, a minimum of two units of a laboratory science, two units of social science and six additional academic electives. Course work in a foreign language is recommended; study of a foreign language is required for graduation.

Advanced placement credit: Students who perform satisfactorily in advanced, college-level courses before entrance and who demonstrate their achievement in tests of the Advanced Placement program may have results submitted for evaluation for advanced standing, placement or credit. The colleges may also award credit for performance on tests of the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). College credits and/or advanced standing also are given to students who have satisfactorily completed courses in the International Baccalaureate program.

Transfer process (deadlines and materials): Fall Priority Deadline - April 1; Spring Deadline - November 15. Applications must include: application form, personal statement, college and high school transcript, transfer evaluation form.

Transfer criteria (credits, GPA): A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.
