Accounting Associate

The Minnesota Private College Council, Fund and Research Foundation seek an Accounting Associate to join our team of higher education professionals. The MPCC, located in downtown St. Paul, serves members through government relations, research and policy analysis, cooperative marketing and fund-raising, and collaborative grant acquisition and administration. The ideal candidate will enjoy a mix of routine and new, finding solutions to problems, and providing responsive, flexible service to staff and our member colleges and universities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Accounting Associate assists the Vice President of Finance and Operations in daily fiscal, accounting, and IT user support for the organizations and its operations. The position performs a variety of accounting duties which require familiarity with accounting practices and procedures. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate, complete sets of accounting records and for assisting staff in managing budgets and programs by providing professional, friendly and efficient service. The position supports the Great Plains database accounting system and assists with network and general user IT support.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Accounting or related degree, four year preferred. Minimum three years experience to include non-profit accounting. IT user support a plus.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software, Great Plains preferred. Ability and initiative to promote and implement automation and new electronic options to improve work processes as they become available.
  3. Solid Excel skills including using and creating spreadsheets. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office. Experience with Raiser’s Edge fundraising software a plus.
  4. Ability to interact with staff and the public in a professional, business-like manner. Ability to anticipate and solve problems and respond to managers requests for information/special accounting reports in a service-oriented mode.
  5. Knowledge of network administration and computer troubleshooting. Able and willing to assist users and learn new applications upon employment.
  6. Accuracy, detail-oriented work style, and high standards for quality output.
  7. Demonstrated ability to maintain a highly organized work environment with minimal supervision.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. A proactive, positive attitude.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain timely, accurate financial records for the organizations by performing daily accounting/bookkeeping functions including month-end close, bank reconciliations, journal entries, analyzing financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries, troubleshooting discrepancies, preparing adjustments. Generate financial reports and analyze and verify for internal consistency, completeness, and accuracy. Perform additional analysis as requested.
  2. Manage accounts payable and receivable.
  3. Manage the Great Plains accounting database including implementing modules as needed; creating, modifying, and updating report formats using FRx; integrating with Excel spreadsheets; etc.
  4. Create, maintain, and generate reports as requested to assist staff manage budgets and programs.
  5. Participate as a member of the Operations Team. Assist with developing office and internal control procedures.
  6. Assist with basic network administration duties including updating systems and troubleshooting computer network problems. Provide technical assistance to questions from staff. Train and support users in MS Office.
